What I do.

I help people discover their soul’s deepest knowing.

One on One Spiritual Guidance

I walk alongside others on the path of healing and offer guidance to help seekers find their soul’s deepest longing.

Teaching

I facilitate workshops, lead retreats, and give talks on living a wholehearted and soulful life. As a lecturer at Yale Divinity School, my classes focus on helping emerging spiritual leaders find their voice and express their deepest convictions.

Writing

I’m finishing a book of daily meditations on how to live with tenderness, peace, and compassion in a harsh and disconnected world.

Leadership

I direct the Office of Transforming Leaders, a leadership training center for spiritual leaders at Berkeley Divinity School at Yale.

What I believe.

These are the 25 guiding principles that have guided my work for over two decades. I find myself returning to these beliefs over and over again to guide healing, growth, and spiritual self-discovery.

1. I believe everything we do, no matter how small, makes a difference.

2. I believe that healing is always possible and that there is an inner wholeness we can all discover.

3. I believe tenderness toward self and others is needed more than ever.

4. I believe we are not separate from our Source. All of us have an inner wholeness that is our original nature.

5. I believe we are all being held by infinite Love.

6. I believe in the infinite worth of all people and the world around us.

7. I believe that if we do not believe in something greater than ourselves, we will believe in something smaller than ourselves.

8. I believe uncertainty and change describe the nature of the universe.

9. I believe being truly present to each other feels a lot like love.

10. I believe the deepest wisdom requires paradox to transcend the dualistic mind.

11. I believe growth is not linear.

12. I believe self-care and community care are interdependent.

13. I believe the most constructive critique of what’s inadequate, broken, and unjust is the embodiment of what’s more whole, healed, and just.

14. I believe that while you can’t be grateful for every moment, you can be grateful in every moment.

15. I believe contemplative practice and compassionate action are mutually dependent.

16. I believe pain that is not transformed is transferred.

17. I believe we learn balance by being out of balance.

18. I believe we are hardwired for connection.

19. I believe the act of noticing itself is healing.

20. I believe change is painful. Not changing is also painful. We must choose our pain wisely.

21. I believe we are all holding invisible wounds in need of compassion.

22. I believe there is always time for the work you are called to do.

23. I believe hard work will always be required to live with integrity.

24. I believe the entire path is rarely revealed all at once; our work is to take the next wise step.

25. I believe it is not your duty to finish the work of healing the world, but neither are you at liberty to neglect it. (Pirkei Avot 2:16)
